Snow: check.
Hearth: warm.
Baby Jesus: worshipped.
On the bright side, we have electricity for the now.
But I was just browsing the Mt. Bachelor site, and came across this gem on their current conditions page:
In the interest of safety as we prepare to open for skiing and riding in the impending storm for which the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch, the previously scheduled Pray for Snow Party on Saturday afternoon will not occur.
That is too awesome.
Anyhow, while I wait for snow to appear, I'm writing songs for the next CR album. I talk a bit about how I'm going about that in the forum, if you haven't seen it.
We're planning to move up to PDX in the spring (my mom moved to Idaho, so there's no reason for us to live in Redneckpalooza any more) and I think I'll definitely be springing for season tickets.
In other news, Thanksgiving is upon us. Just a small gathering at our place of family + friend, then it'll be back to work. I finally managed to finish a track this week for the first time in about 10 months, so I have high hopes that my writing slump is finally over. It feels like it, anyhow.
Decided to climb Rocky Top today instead of tomorrow. Took this picture of Mt. Jefferson from the summit. Hit my Flickr page for more of the same.
2. It occurs to me, in my advanced years, that the holidays are not really a time when older people give you, like, food and presents and stuff. They're actually just a big exercise in logistical planning, and their success is measured by your skill in same.
3. I wish I could finish a fucking song. I sure do start a lot lately. I should make an album of 1-minute snippits. It would be 70 tracks long.
4. President-Elect Obama is now giving weekly YouTube addresses. I feel like my jet pack is right around the corner.
5. I'm going to climb a mountain this weekend. And that's not a metaphor.
So get out there and do your thing. Unless, you know, you're a Republican. Then you're welcome to stay home and drink yourself in to a stupor. In fact, I'd prefer that you do.
There is, however, some bad that comes with the good. It is quite easy to get a measure on the ballot here, so it's actually a good thing that we can vote at our leisure, giving us time to research all these competing measures. Now, you California folks are gonna say "hey, wait, we have ballot measures too!" Sure. Did you have 18 of them? This is actually quite normal here. Every time I've voted since we moved here there has been a whole raft of measures, and some of them are pretty heavy duty. Gotta pay attention to that shit.
Anyhow, back to music. This whole thing with the next Micronaut release is getting quite ridiculous. I completely changed the focus of the album last weekend to go with a much more organic, downbeat sound. While this doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things, it means that I have a bunch of songs in various stages of completion, from laid out but not completed to entirely completed and mastered. Not sure what to do with these at this juncture. Ideas are appreciated.
The new Bounte EP, Maximal, is now available for purchase in shopPOSI, as well as most all the on-line services. 'Tis here, and is available at Depression 2.0 pricing.
